Open Room

An exhibition space that can change its route.

Fictional concept study · Not a commissioned or completed project

Illustrative exhibition interior with plum partitions, pale floor and freestanding display structures.
Open Room / Exhibition study · Original generated image; illustrative, not completed work.

Keep the room open.
Give each display a place.

The initial idea treated the room as a single sequence. A central desk would establish the arrival point, with fixed walls guiding visitors through the display.

The developed brief makes a different choice. Moving reception toward the entrance clears the middle of the room. Movable partitions create two possible routes, so the collection can change without treating the original layout as permanent.

This is an authored demonstration of design reasoning. Access, structure, services and detailed dimensions would all need verification for a real site.

A useful brief records decisions, including the ones that changed. Compare the opening instruction with the developed direction for the Open Room study.

Initial brief

Create a single open exhibition room with fixed display walls and a central reception desk. Allow visitors to follow one route through the collection. Use overhead lighting throughout.

Developed brief

Create a flexible exhibition room with movable display walls and a reception desk near the entrance. Allow visitors to choose two routes through the collection. Use overhead lighting and focused display lighting.

Read the authored change list
  • “single open” becomes “flexible” to allow different exhibition arrangements.
  • “fixed” display walls become “movable”.
  • The reception desk moves from the center to near the entrance.
  • A single visitor route becomes a choice of two routes.
  • Focused display lighting supplements overhead lighting.

What the image cannot settle

A concept image communicates spatial intent. A real project still needs a measured survey, coordinated technical information, accessibility review and an agreed scope from the relevant professionals.
