Fictional demonstration 021

Courtyard House

A fictional renovation study in plan and section. Move the cut to see how the floor relationships change.

The drawing asks
where light can go.

The study retains a low front room, opens a court in the middle and gathers more height at the rear. Each drawing describes the same concept from a different position.

Status
Original fictional concept / not built
Scope
Spatial arrangement and floor relationships
Limit
Conceptual geometry only; not a surveyed or technical design

Move a cut through the building.

Each position intersects the actual plan polygons below. The section is computed from the intersected depth of each floor.

All four numbered sections — readable without scripts

Cut 1 / 15% along the plan

Ground floor.

Cut 2 / 40% along the plan

Ground floor, Upper floor.

Cut 3 / 70% along the plan

Ground floor, Upper floor, Roof terrace.

Cut 4 / 90% along the plan

Ground floor, Upper floor, Roof terrace.

What to notice

Cut 1: the low room

The front of the building has one continuous ground-floor plane. There is no upper floor at this position.

Cut 2: a partial upper floor

The upper floor occupies only part of the depth, showing why a section can explain something the plan alone cannot.

Cuts 3 and 4: the tall volume

Ground and upper floors span the full depth. The roof terrace stops short, leaving a different outline above.
