The shared room.
A fictional living-room study exploring how a reading edge and a gathering zone can share one space.

Keep the route open.
The demonstration brief asks for a place to read and a place to gather without filling the route between doors. A low seating group holds the central area. A separate light gives the reading chair its own purpose.

Three moves in one plan.
Place the large pieces first.
Test the sofa and chair positions against the room’s entrances. Check dimensions in the actual space before buying.
Give each activity its own light.
Separate general room light from a focused reading source. Discuss glare and control positions with the project’s qualified specialist.
Leave the shelf as a softer edge.
Grazing light gives the wall texture while the lower bench keeps the sightline open.

Texture without clutter.
The oak bench and plaster wall provide different surfaces for light to meet. In a real project, material samples and a site check would test the effect before specification.
