The calculation uses sRGB relative luminance and (lighter +0.05)/(darker +0.05). We compare the unrounded result with4.5:1 for these normal-size text examples. Displayed ratios are rounded for reading.

A passing pair does not certify the whole interface. Focus, component boundaries, state communication and actual implementation still require review.

From intent to application

  1. Name the job

Identify who needs to read, what they need to do and which surface they will meet first. A poster and a long article do not need the same emphasis.

  2. Assign the roles

Choose a stable ground/type relationship before adding a signal. Use the signal deliberately, with labels and shapes that preserve meaning without hue.

  3. Review the real context

Put final words into the actual interface or print proof. Test focus and states; check the material under its intended light. Record what is verified and what remains a question.
