Look closer.
Type Observatory is a fictional studio shaping words into useful reading systems. We work on typographic direction, editorial structure and small information projects.
Find an offeringA clear page, from the first line.
Our illustrative page study takes one piece of information and gives it a readable hierarchy: headings, body, captions and the spaces between them.
Read the page-study scopeQuestions worth reading.
Can a project start with one page?
Yes. The example scope begins with a single page. Agree actual content, formats and revisions directly.
Do you write the content?
The sample scope organizes approved words. Copywriting, translation and new research are agreed separately.
Can the work use an existing identity?
Discuss your current type, assets and licensing before defining a direction.
A pair can be a shape.
The space between letters is part of the word. Our specimen shows real discretionary ligatures and kerning in the bundled display face, with an unchanged plain-text equivalent beside it.
