This fixed Vina Sans specimen contains a real discretionary CO ligature and kerning pairs. The font’s own shaping features change the letters; no substitute drawing is used.

The same word remains in Gothic A1 for reading. The display study uses real font features; the boundary guides mark the known CO glyph group when the discretionary ligature is enabled.

What changes here?

Discretionary ligatures allow a font to join selected letter combinations into a designed glyph. In this bundled Vina Sans face, the CO pair has such a glyph. Kerning adjusts the spacing of specific pairs; this specimen includes CO, OA and AL.

The guides measure browser text ranges. With the known CO ligature enabled, its two characters are measured as one glyph group. These are typographic observations, not a test of reading ability or a promise of better results.
