Notes from
the edit.

Short, authored editorial notes about structure and useful writing. These are demonstration articles, not a record of client engagements.

A transition is
a relationship.

“Next” tells a reader that a paragraph follows another. It does not tell them why. A useful transition makes the relationship explicit: a consequence, a contrast, an example or a return to the central question.

Try taking the first sentence of each paragraph out of a draft and reading the sentences in order. You should be able to see the argument move. If the sequence feels like a collection of unrelated openings, the problem may be in the outline rather than the vocabulary.

In our fictional repair-guide sample, “that distinction” points back to two possible conditions. It then explains why the article begins with an assessment. The transition carries an idea from one paragraph into the next.

Keep a source
query visible.

When a draft includes a claim that still needs checking, mark the gap plainly. A polished sentence can make an unresolved fact look settled.

A useful source query names the exact information required, the person responsible for confirming it and where the answer should be recorded. “Check this” is less helpful than “Owner to confirm collection hours before publication.”

Remove the query only when the answer has been checked and the draft reflects it. If no reliable answer is available, change or remove the claim.

Write the action
after the question.

A contact link is useful when a reader knows what to send and what the conversation is for. Give enough context to make the first step possible.

For an editorial enquiry, that might mean the intended reader, the material already available, the deliverable and a working deadline. The site can invite a conversation without promising a response time it cannot support.

A clear action label follows from that context. “Prepare an enquiry” describes the next step more accurately than a vague invitation to discover more.
