Listen on
your own terms.
The instrument makes its sound in your browser. It does not use a microphone, connect to an audio service or start on arrival.
Start, pause, leave.
Start creates one audio engine. Stop closes it and removes its voices. Mute silences the output while keeping the pulse pattern running; Unmute restores your bounded output setting. Moving to another page or hiding the tab stops the engine.
The output slider runs from 0 to 20%, initially 8%. This bounds the digital signal, not the loudness of your headphones or speakers. Begin with low device volume and adjust for your own preference.
What the controls change.
- Base frequency
- 110–440 Hz. A pitched source uses this base multiplied by the sketch pattern. Filtered noise uses it as the band center, also following the pattern.
- Pulse interval
- 250–1200 ms between gesture starts. The envelope ends before the next gesture, preserving an audible gap.
- Character
- Sine gives a rounded tone; triangle adds upper partials; filtered noise supplies texture without a stable musical pitch.
- Waveform and level
- The trace reads the actual analyser after output gain. The level is relative digital RMS, not a calibrated acoustic reading.
Without sound or motion.
Every sketch has a plain-language description and an authored pattern diagram. Native controls work with a keyboard. Reduced-motion preference slows visual trace updates while preserving all controls and text. The instrument does not require hearing to prepare a sound inquiry.
If Web Audio is unavailable, the page states that condition and keeps the written studies accessible. No imitation playback animation replaces a failed signal.
What travels in the link.
Known sketch, character, bounded settings and project intent can travel to the inquiry. Playback state does not. Personal name, email and free text stay on the inquiry page and are never placed in a URL or stored.
