One handover.
Every loose end named.
A fictional preparation engagement for an independent business. This example shows the shape of the work, not a client result.
The brief
Turn an agreed set of scattered records into a usable preparation index.
- Starting material
- An agreed list of non-sensitive document types, existing folder names and questions.
- Working boundary
- One record set and one handover recipient. Volume, timing and fees are confirmed in writing.
- Finished output
- An index, a missing-items list, a responsibility note and a repeatable folder guide.
What happens during the engagement
Confirm the purpose
Name the person who will use the index and what they need it to make visible.
Agree categories
Write a short rule for each folder and test it against a few examples before organizing the whole set.
Record exceptions
Keep ambiguous or incomplete items visible. Assign a question owner rather than guessing.
Make the handover
Review the index together and agree who maintains it after the engagement ends.
Acceptance is a conversation.
The handover is ready when the recipient can locate the agreed records, identify missing items and understand the next action. A documented exception remains an exception; it is not quietly treated as complete.
