Studio
notes.

Practical notes for planning, reviewing and keeping images. Editorial demonstration content for an independent creative practice.

Write the use
into the brief.

An image for a narrow package panel needs a different composition from a wide page opening.

List the placements before discussing a shot. Include the required crop, background, space for text and whether the image must work in more than one format. Supply a rough layout when it helps explain the constraint.

Keep creative references separate from deliverable requirements. References describe a visual intention; the final shot list describes what must actually be produced.

A useful starting list

  • What is being photographed or illustrated?
  • Where will each final image appear?
  • Which details must remain visible?
  • What crops and file formats are required?
  • Who signs off the treatment and the final files?

Review with
a clear reference.

Collect feedback in one place. Identify the image and area, explain the issue, and provide a reference if colour, texture or shape is important. “Match the approved product sample” is more actionable than “make it feel different.”

Review on a suitable display and confirm which file is the latest version. Keep an agreed revision list so separate comments do not undo one another.

See how a scope is agreed

Keep a useful
image archive.

Store original files separately from final exports. Use a consistent project name and record the agreed usage, image credit and delivery date beside the files.

Keep a second copy in a separate location. When a new use is proposed, check the original agreement before commissioning additional exports.
