Less certainty.
Better judgment.
A good adviser should make the reasoning easier to inspect, not harder to question.
Ledger House is a fictional independent advisory practice, created to demonstrate a quieter, more substantive way to present professional services.
The practice is built around a simple editorial idea: show how the advice is formed. Let a visitor read a full argument, see its limits and use the working record before asking them to begin a conversation.
Four commitments.
- Say what is known.
- Keep observations distinct from assumptions and hopes. A useful limitation belongs in the paper, not in the small print.
- Make the alternatives real.
- Describe the strongest plausible choices, including the choice to stop or defer. An argument improves when its alternatives are treated fairly.
- Leave room to disagree.
- A recommendation is a view with reasons. The decision owner should be able to challenge both without losing the thread of the work.
- Make the next step concrete.
- End with an action, a question and a review point. The document should remain useful after the conversation ends.

A useful first conversation.
Bring the decision as it stands. You do not need a polished presentation or a preferred answer. A description of the situation, the people responsible and the question that keeps returning is enough to begin.
We first clarify what needs deciding and what kind of support would be useful. If the question belongs with another specialist, that should become clear before an engagement is defined.
