Turn a familiar situation into language you can use.

Illustrative course · Adults · One-to-one
Six sessions of 50 minutes

What we work on.

One situation.
Several ways
to say it.

Begin with a real conversation: asking for information, making an appointment or explaining a change. Your tutor helps you select useful phrases and practise a response.

Each session includes a short recap, a focused language task and spoken practice. Between sessions, use a brief prompt in a situation you choose.

Lessons are adapted after an initial discussion. This example does not promise a particular level or result.

Make a clear request.

  1. Give the context

Start with the reason for your message. For example: I am writing about the class on Friday.

  2. Make the request

Ask for one clear action. For example: Could you send me the reading list, please?

  3. Add useful timing

Include a time only when it helps. For example: If possible, could you send it by Thursday afternoon?

  4. Read it back

Read the whole message once. Check that the reason, the request, and the timing are clear. Then remove anything the reader does not need.

Now make it yours.

Choose a small request from your own day. Write one sentence for the context, one for the request and one for timing. Read it aloud, then make it shorter without losing the meaning.

Finally, practise checking what you have agreed. A clear request makes space for the other person to ask a question or suggest a different time.
