Common
Room
A neighborhood room
for doing things together.

Your first visit
starts here.

You can come with a project, a question or nothing in particular. Here is how the room is intended to feel for someone arriving alone.

You don’t need
an introduction.

The host’s first job is to help you work out where to sit and what is happening. Saying “I’m new” is enough.

Choose a gathering
  1. Before

Find a pace that suits you.

Read the gathering notice. Quiet company asks for less conversation; the long table begins with a shared question. Mending offers something small to do with your hands. You can choose to watch at any of them.

If an access detail will affect whether you can take part, put the question in your attendance note. The real host would need to confirm the answer before your visit.

  2. At the door

    Ask for the host.

In the sample room, the welcome point is beside the bookshelf. The host will explain the plan, show the table and describe where you can take a break. No public introduction is required.

Arriving with another person is welcome. Include the number in your note so a host can plan the space.

  3. At the table

    Choose your own part.

Listen first, join a small task or ask for a quieter place. You can pass on a question and step away when you need to. Tell the host if you want help finding a natural moment to leave.

Ask before photographing another person or their work. Leave the table ready for the next visitor.
